Take time to untangle on our tranquil organic orchard, soak up the views on the sunny veranda, watch the ships come and go and let the birdsong uplift your soul. In the evenings, plan your next adventures by the fire or stroll down to the Historic Carey’s Bay Pub.
Villa
Rustica is an 1860’s fisherman’s cottage that has
been sensitively and imaginatively expanded in the style of the
times, using local timbers and leadlight windows to further
enhance its charm. It is situated within the ‘Town
Belt’, 100m from the Scott Memorial Lookout, and
overlooks Carey’s Bay.
Access is through the Reserve so I always meet guests at the
lookout and guide them down Braileys Track to our private
parking area.
A short walk down one of the tracks takes you to Port Chalmers with its cafés and art galleries; another takes you up into the countryside and further spectacular vantage points of the Otago Harbour. It is only 15 scenic km from Dunedin and, in the other direction, great surf beaches like Warrington with its Hectors dolphins and Aramoana with its penguins, seals and seabirds.
We provide organic home grown breakfasts, with eggs from our free-range hens and fruit from the orchard...stewed, fresh and juiced in season...and really good espresso coffee! We also offer surfing lessons and tours, professional therapeutic massage, free Internet, sky TV, sessions for musicians, and plenty to read by the fire.
